Unable to reconnect after a safe mode reboot

Last updated on Feb 05, 2024

Problem

You're unable to reconnect to the remote computer after a safe mode reboot.

Cause

SetMe was designed to ensure a reliable connection regardless of the remote computer's hardware or network restrictions. Under normal conditions, SetMe restores the Wi-Fi connection in safe mode even when Windows doesn't do so automatically.

However, on some Windows systems Wi-Fi adapters are entirely disabled in safe mode, which makes restoring the wireless connection technically impossible.

Solution

There are three possible solutions to the issue:

  • Restart the remote computer in normal mode and update the Wi-Fi adapter drivers.
  • Instruct the remote user to switch to a wired internet connection.
  • Instruct the remote user to switch to a different Wi-Fi adapter.

Affected operating systems

  • Windows 10
  • Windows 11
