Device owner

The unattended device owner is a user who has full access to a device and can perform any actions with it. Both Agents and Administrators can be unattended device owners.

Unattended device owners can:

Administrators have full access to all unattended devices in your organization.

You can become the unattended device owner in the following scenarios:

The unattended device owner is displayed in the Owner column of the unattended device list.

To view all of the unattended devices you own, group your list by Owner. Devices owned by you will be placed under Me at the top of your unattended list.

If an administrator needs to remove a user who is the owner of any unattended devices, they must first resolve that user's device ownership. There are two ways to achieve this:

  • Remove that owner's unattended devices.
  • Select a new owner for those unattended devices.

Change owner for an individual device

  1. Sign in to the SetMe Expert console.
  2. In the navigation bar at the top of the screen, choose Unattended.

    Alternatively, you can open SetMe Unattended devices in your browser.

  3. In your unattended list, hover over the unattended device, open the options menu and select Change owner.
  4. In the New owner list, select a new owner for the unattended device. 

    The Change owner menu is available only for device owners and administrators.

  5. Click Save.
  6. Make sure that you selected the right user, then click Confirm.

As the device owner, be aware that if the remote computer is currently not enabled for shared access and you're not assigned with the Administrator role, you will lose access to this machine immediately after choosing a new owner and confirming the operation.

Change owner for multiple unattended devices

  1. Sign in to the SetMe Expert console.
  2. In the navigation bar at the top of the screen, choose Unattended

    Alternatively, you can open SetMe Unattended devices in your browser.

  3. In your unattended list, check the boxes next to each device that you want to manage.
  4. On the toobar, click Owner

    The Owner button is available only for owners of the selected unattended devices and administrators.

  5. In the New owner list, select a new owner for the unattended device.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Make sure that you selected the right user, then click Confirm.

As the device owner, be aware that if the remote computer is currently not enabled for shared access and you're not assigned with the Administrator role, you will lose access to this machine immediately after choosing a new owner and confirming the operation.
